Parts of Speech- Nouns | Master Grammar



A noun is a name of a person, a place, an animal, a thing or an idea. Examples- Suhail is my best friend. (Person)
                       We went to the market. (Place)
                       I have a pet dog. (Animal)
                       I read a book.(Thing)

There are five kinds of nouns. They are - 
Proper Nouns: It is the name of the person, an animal, a place or a thing, in particular. Examples- Raja, Bill Gates, Rufus, the Jagannath Temple, the Indian Ocean and the Titanic.
Common Nouns: It is the name of the person, an animal, a place or a thing, in general. Examples- boy, man, dog, park, bag and ship.
Collective Nouns: It is name of a collection of people, animals or things. Examples- herd, crowd, crew and fleet.
Abstract Nouns: It is a noun that we cannot touch, see, hear, smell or taste. Examples- happiness, loyalty, patience, connection.
Material Nouns: It is a noun that refers to a material or substance from which things are made. Examples- iron, protein, cotton,diamond and plastic.
