Nouns: The Number | Master Grammar

 


A countable noun can be one or more than one, i.e., two, three or four etc. in number. So, these nouns fall into two categories in terms of number : 
   1. Singular Nouns
   2. Plural Nouns

A noun that denotes one person, place or thing etc., is of singular number ; as -
    bat, child, tooth, ox, foot etc.

A noun that denotes more-than-one persons, places or things etc., is of plural number ; as -
    bats, children, teeth, oxen, feet etc.

FORMATION OF PLURALS~
        Plurals can be made in several ways : 
(a) By adding s to the singular forms:

(c) Nouns ending in y after a consonant form their plurals by dropping their y and adding ies :
